Soft Tissue & Orthopedic Surgery for Pets

We are equipped to handle both routine and some complex surgical procedures. Every patient is thoroughly evaluated and their surgery and anesthesia protocol selected based on their individual needs. We always perform pre-operative bloodwork to identify any underlying issues prior to surgery. Continuous monitoring by trained technicians and electronic monitoring devices is provided to every surgical patient, and medication protocols are tailored to each individual to include pain management. Please contact us by phone for an appointment if you are concerned that your pet may have a soft tissue or orthopedic problem.

Common Surgeries

Orthopedic Surgeries

Most orthopedic surgery procedures can be performed at Barks + Bliss by our own veterinarians or with the Mobile Veterinary Services Austin team. In some cases, referral to a specialty center is the best option. Surgeries that can be performed close to home at Barks + Bliss include:

  • Bone fracture splinting (non-surgical) and some surgical fracture repairs with internal fixation
  • Leg/digit/tail amputations- for injury or tumors
  • Patellar luxation correction (luxating knee caps)
  • Femoral head and neck ostectomy for hip dysplasia, arthritis of the hip or fracture of the femoral head or neck
  • Extracapsular repair of cranial cruciate ligament (CCL or ACL) instability or rupture, with or without a meniscal tear
  • Advanced CCL repairs by tibial plateau leveling osteotomy (TPLO) and fracture repairs

Scheduling Surgeries

Surgeries are scheduled and performed Monday through Friday. Drop-off time is between 7:30am to 8am. Pick-up for outpatient procedures is generally between 4 and 6 p.m. If your pet is showing clear signs of illness (runny nose, fever, etc.) or the blood work reveals problems, we will reschedule or re-evaluate your pet for surgery. Some advanced surgical procedures may be referred to other facilities.
